Topolobampo has a serious reputation among anglers: the mix of bay, open sea and Sea of Cortez currents creates exceptional conditions.
Species change with the year. Dorado is strong from May to October; bonefish and snook are hunted in the bay; tuna and wahoo appear further out. A local captain knows what to look for based on wind and tide.
We recommend leaving before dawn, wearing long sleeves and sun protection, and accepting that the sea is in charge. Catch and release is the norm here.
